Why did Dennis DeYoung leave Styx?
There were several reasons. Tommy Shaw and James Young wanted to perfom rock songs while Dennis DeYoung wanted to perform ballads and more commercially successful pop songs. Like the previous poster stated, Kilroy was Here was the end of Styx. That was actually my first concert and I liked it. They performed it in smaller venues. When the band was asked to perform at a rock festival in Texas, the band wanted to do a classic Styx concert with all their songs,Dennis wanted to bring Shakespeare to the masses. He won and their show bombed miserably. Tommy left for a while but the band did re-unite in 1996. That was short lived. They had planned a tour but Dennis said he couldnt due to some rare allergy that actually made him allergic to the stage lighting.
