Why did Cupid ditch his wife?
Yes, it was sad so far. But that is not the end of the story. Venus was the one who had ordered Cupid to kill Psyche. When he did not, Venus gave Psyche several tasks, supposedly impossible. The last one was to fetch a box from the Underworld. It contained the beauty of Proserpina, Venus told her. Psyche fetched it, but out of curiosity opened it and out came lethal fumes. Psyche fainted but before the fumes had killed her Cupid came to the rescue. He realised that he still loved her and asked Zeus’s permission to marry her, even though she was a mortal. And they married. Now she was Cupid’s wife, and he never ‘ditched her’.
