Why did Corning expand its presence to Western China?
When we decided to expand our cable systems business in China, we were looking at two key requirements. First, we wanted to find the markets with the best potential for growth in the future. Second, we wanted to work in a joint venture with a capable Chinese partner. We found both in Chengdu and in 2000 formed an equity venture that has reached record levels of optical fiber cable production.
