Why did Cinderella fall in love with her prince?

Quite honestly, I’ve never understood that, either. Later Disney movies have given the guys more character- Aladdin, Beast, Simba, Shang, and so on- but the earlier guys were absolutely boring. Pretty, perhaps, but nothing more than blank, vapid archetypes of a prince. I never understood why Cinderella fell for Prince Charming, or even why Ariel fell for Eric. Pocahontas’ John Smith was a little better, but still lacking somewhat, much like Phoebus in “The Hunchback of Notre Dame”. If we can make female characters full of life and character and idiosyncrasies, there’s no reason why the male characters should be lifeless pretty boys in castles and posing majestically on horseback and sweeping in to save the day (in other words, perfect, but without their own personalities- kind of like the Prince Edward character lampooned in “Enchanted”). You know what I mean?

Cinderella is nothing but a fairy tale; the author deems the ending, for all we know the author could have deemed her not to fall in love with him; therefore, the question is deemed foolish to gain an idea from.
