If one believes in global warming, Canada’s contribution to the world’s greenhouse effect is 2% through it’s carbon emissions. Because of the size of the country, sparsely settled areas other than in the south and the cold climate, there is nothing we can do to lessen that 2%, especially not back to Kyoto’s goals. Which mean we’d be paying forever, with no chance of ever getting out of it. Kyoto is a bad deal for developed countries. The targets are virtually impossible to meet without going back to a neanderthal-like lifestyle and while financing those in less fortunate areas of the world is nice on a humanitarian level, it makes no sense to do so because of a faulty protocol like Kyoto. Second, we just came through a federal election here. The liberal platform was based exclusively on the environment and global warming, and what we need to do about it.
