I think he’s at a point where he’s still sowing his wild oats. If he really had been in love with her, he wouldn’t have submitted to temptation. He probably figured that because he is who he is, she would overlook it and accept it but he quickly found out that she has too much pride for that. He wants her back but he knows he isn’t done yet. He knows he can’t keep it in his pants. What is he going to do? Ignore all of the other attractive females and place his attention soley on her? Yeah right! If that were really the case, he would’ve remained loyal to her. It’s funny because after they broke up, it STILL didn’t stop him from getting with other females.
