The reason why the Atkins Nutritional Approach became unpopular among the people was because when Robert Coleman Atkins died, his port mortem report showed that he was overweight or obese. This information was leaked out in the press and when the people who were following this diet came to know about this presumed that it was no point following this diet when this diet was of no help to the inventor. But this information was wrong. The Atkins Nutritional Inc., issued a public notice saying that the information was false and that Robert Atkins died a fit person and he was pretty slim during his time of death. Still, the Atkins Diet started losing its popularity and finally in 2005, the company had to file bankruptcy. In 2006, the company re-emerged and started advertising their products on a large scale. The company is gaining popularity again but at a slow rate.
