Why did Arnold and Maria Shriver fly to the east coast to see her mother?
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and his wife, Maria Shriver, were at the bedside of her mother, Eunice Kennedy Shriver, who was in critical condition in a Massachusetts hospital, representatives said Friday. The 88-year-old Eunice Kennedy Shriver, the sister of former President John F. Kennedy, was surrounded by family at a hospital in Barnstable, according to Kirsten Seckler, a spokeswoman for the Special Olympics, which was founded by the elder Shriver. “Eunice Kennedy Shriver is in Cape Cod Hospital in intensive care in critical but stable condition,” said a statement by the Shriver family. “Her entire family is with her — her husband, all her children and her grandchildren. The family is grateful for the prayers of her many friends.” Maria Shriver is one of five children and the only daughter of Eunice and Sargent Shriver. Schwarzenegger has been a spokesman for the Special Olympics. “He and Maria are both there with Mrs. Shriver,” said Aaron McLear, a spokesman for the governor. –Pat
