Why did Argentina surrender to the British Armed Forces in the Falklands?
Argentina’s armed forces are not larger than those of the U.K and in terms of numbers the British forces deployed to the Falkland’s were about equal in size to those of the Argentine defenders. But numbers don’t mean much, the devil is in the details. Argentina’s navy contributed very little to the fight, her one operational submarine had technical problems which prevented her from hitting anything. Her ancient aircraft carrier barely tried and Argentina’s other heavy unit, the elderly and obsolete cruiser Gen. Belgrano was sunk with heavy loss of life. Argentina’s air force was the one arm that acquitted itself well but its aircraft were at the very limit of their capabilities trying to support forces in the Falkland’s and could not even cover the entire islands. Technical problems with their ordnance prevented them from being far more effective than they should have been. It is worth noting due to the limitations and small numbers of RN Sea Harrier’s and poor short-range air defenses
