It was probably al-Qaeda. A lot of people say it wasn’t proved in a court of law, but I don’t think we need Sherlock Holmes working on this. Any event in modern history that has the impact on society and government that 9/11 had is bound to cause conspiracy theories. The only thing in recent history (last 50 years) that compares to it in utter shock, fear, and anger/grief caused by the attack was the assasination of JFK in 1963. The killer turned out to be a run of the mill crazy, a commie, and the answer was so boring that people have made whole careers dreaming up bizarre conspiracy theories. Al-Qaeda’a roots can be traced back to at least WW1, and the West’s meddling in the Islamic world. When Britain and France won the first war, they arbitrarily drew lines in the sand to make western-style countries out of the defunct Ottoman Empire, which had won modern-day Turkey from the remnants of the old Roman (Byzantine) Empire (!) in Constantinople–to give you an idea of how rapidly and r
