Why did Aer Arann petition for examinership?
Aer Arann suffered losses in 2008 and 2009 which were difficult years for airlines due to the recession. In 2010 the airline was operating strongly but the cost of the volcanic ash disruptions and the dip in bookings caused by the ash crisis meant that the airline needed to re-structure its finances and attract new investors. Examinership offers the opportunity to do this.
