Why did Adolf Hitler win the iron cross in WW1?
his first iron cross was won in Belgium in 1914, his unit held a trench line on the top of a ridge, during the morning his unit had attacked the french lines at the bottom of the ridge, the attack was beaten back, however Hitlers company commander had been injured during the assault and was lying out in no mans land some way from the german lines, hitler crawled out of his lines and down the hill to his officer and then dragged him back to the german lines while under french rifle fire from the moment he left the german trench. there is no mistaking it was a very brave and humane act on his part to risk his life to save anothers (it is claimed this officer he saved was jewish, but there is no proof either way as apparently the officer in question died back at the german field hospital) still he was under fire for at least 15 minutes and wasn’t hit once, just one bullet would have been enough the second medal was gained though not one act but ‘consistent bravery and dedication to duty’
