Why did Adams nominate Thomas Jefferson to write the declaration of independence?
According to a letter that John Adams wrote to his friend Timothy Pickering, Adams gave Jefferson three reasons that Jefferson should write the Declaration of Independence instead of Adams. The three reasons, in Adams own words were: “Reason first, you are a Virginian, and a Virginian ought to appear at the head of this business. Reason second, I am obnoxious, suspected, and unpopular. You are very much otherwise. Reason third, you can write ten times better than I can.
