(1) Manor Road Community Woodland is one of three remaining out of four proposed new Local Nature Reserves in the district. The first, Folly Farm, was designated in December 2003. This follows a planned progression of site designations to be implemented under the Wildspaces project during 2003-2006, resulting in a total of seven Local Nature Reserves within the district. (2) Manor Road Community Woodland has been described as “one of the best examples of community forestry in the South West” (Forest of Avon Prospectus for Community Forestry in the West of England, January 2005). It comprises newly planted broadleaved woodland. Planting was begun in 1993 and has since been carried out in stages by local people, voluntary groups and local contractors. A current management plan is in place for the site and aims include increasing the wildlife value and biodiversity.
