Why density of ice is less than water?

Ice has a lower density than water because the H atoms in H2O do not line up effeciently causing the the H dipoles to be more spaced out causing a decrease in density because there are less water molecules in on space as compared with liquid water. The environmental effects I suppose would be that the ice bergs wouldn’t float but would sink. Since liquid water absorbs for sunlight better than ice bergs; more of the ice bergs would melt. This causes the sea levels to rise…[You can work out the rest ;p].
