Excellent! If God is so powerful, loving and perfect He certainly could have created a world where every one made the right choice, all the time, eliminating pain and suffering – right? We won’t say wrong – – but we want you to think about this. The flip side of this question suggests eliminating our potential for evil – based on choice. However we would argue that the risk of freedom MUST be proportional to its potential for good. If I have the freedom to love one person, then I can only hurt one person. If I have the freedom to love a little then I have the freedom to hurt them a little. Hitler had the freedom to love millions – he also carried the potential to harm millions. If we were to live lives without suffering, by what standard of freedom could we know love? How could we know that we have ‘lived?’ Outside of knowing Christ, one could legitimately argue that if this short life is all there is then the risk of freedom isn’t worth it – at least not for those who suffer.
