Why controlling behaviours, injections, and special laws favouring?

I have worked in psychiatry for over 20 years in the states, and the laws vary here–as well as in other countries. In the past 20 years, in the US, it has become more and more difficult to ‘force’ any patient to take medication, whether it be injections or pills. If someone is violent, threatening and out of control they can be committed, by the police, doctors, family members, etc and brought before a judge. The rules are very strict and a person cannot be committed ‘willy-nilly’. If they are psychotic and refusing medication which would decrease their violence and delusions, then they can be ruled to be given medication against their will. Without the medication, their violence would have them in prison otherwise. Hospitals/doctors are in this field to help people and society. I don’t know the laws in England–I can only speak for the US.
