Why collect stamps?
Well, to satisfy some urge or obsession or compulsion, I guess. But why else? Why would any sane person do this? Being one of the sanest people I know, I am qualified to answer this! Stamps can represent an interest in the history of the world, a region, or a specific locality (even your hometown). They can teach about famous people, subjects (“topics”), and events. They can be a miniature art collection. They can be used as a tool to meet people throughout the world. Stamp collecting offers something to take up your time and your spare money. There’s lots to do in stamp collecing, probably limited mostly by your own imagination. I used to collect everything the US Postal Service put out – singles, sheets, plate blocks, covers and stationery, etc. – but now I’m more discerning. I collect whatever I like!
