The leadership of Moet and Chandon Champagne changed in 1832 and led to the vintage champagne concept in 1840. Moet Champagne released its first vintage in 1842. After the Marne Valley fell under the ownership of Moet Champagne the company expanded and employees raised, with excelled social securities such as free medical attention, maternity benefits, sick pay, legal aid and pensions. It is reported that by 1880 that sales of the champagne were at around 2.5million bottles.
