Why choose environmental engineering?
So, you want to save the planet? Environmental engineers do that and much more — we are also the profession charged with protecting the public health. Environmental engineering is a good profession for people who want to make significant technical contributions to society. It requires a strong understanding in all the major sciences (biology, chemistry, and physics), mathematics, computer science, laboratory analyses, and communication skills. Unlike other branches of engineering, almost all environmental projects involve outdoor work, and due to the breadth of potential employers (government, consulting, industry) work can be found in practically any location. Lastly, due to the public nature of the projects, the job market for co-op and permanent employment has historically been strong.
