Students in the Cultural, Media and Gender Studies program examine the nature, function, and effects of culture, as well as the processes through which our identities are constructed, communicated and interpreted by others. This program analyzes the significance of culture, media and gender in all areas of human life, especially in applying theory and methodologies to aspects of pop culture, and the arts. Why Marian? Marian University offers an interdisciplinary approach to the study of culture, media, and gender that highlights how we organize values and beliefs and construct individual and collective identities. Core courses apply critical cultural inquiry to the investigation of cultural products, social institutions and practices and ideological perspectives. The program’s elective curriculum integrates theories and insights from various disciplines allowing students to carefully examine how culture works and how it affects society.
