Why choose complementary (alternative) medicine?
Traditional medicine is excellent at stabilizing crisis, trauma and emergencies, but it has very little value in health prevention and promotion. In 2001, the leading causes of death were heart disease with 700,142 deaths, cancer with 553,768, and more than 250,000 deaths attributed to physician’s activity, manner, or therapy, known as iatrogenic causes. Our health system costs us more than twice the amount than any other country. U.S. health spending hit 1.7 trillion dollars in 2003, which exceeds 15% of the gross domestic product. We rank 12th out of 13 industrialized nations when it comes to healthy life expectancy (almost last). Another report per the World Health Organization ranks the U.S. as 15th among 25 industrialized countries.
