Why choose childminder over after school club?

As a teacher I would choose a childminder over a before/after school club any day of the week. I’ve noticed a lot of the children at schools I have worked in that have had behavioural difficulties have gone to breakfast/ after school clubs. Not all children at them have behaviour problems obviously, but you’d be surprised by how many do. If you are considering a club then ask to have a look – preferably while the children are there so you can view their behaviour. A lot that I have seen lump all the children in together – 4 year olds to 11 year olds. I don’t know how old your kids are but I know the little ones at clubs are sometimes intimidated by older, boisterous children. Also, as it is an out of school time the staff often don’t want to be too ‘structured’ but unfortunately this can mean that they let the kids run riot, the older ones always get the best games, etc. It is often a busy, noisy, fairly small environment, where a lot of kids want to relax at the end of a school day bu
