Why care about race and racism in America?
I care about this issue for the same reason you do. Racial conflict affects everyone with a pulse and with the rise of Barack Obama in American politics, this issue will become more important and relevant. Some equal rights advocates argue that racism is a systematic process that harms the victims while the collateral damage is contained. Emotions and passion deny these advocates an ability to sympathize with the new “victim” of racism, non-racist White Americans that also have obstacles and hurdles to overcome but are painted as villains and denied equal rights in “leveling the playing field” for blacks.
