Why cant you walk dogs if they have just been fed?
Dogs are at risk of gastric torsion and voluvus, aka bloat, if they are exercised too close to feeding. It affects large and deep chested breeds most, but any dog can bloat. The general rule of thumb is no exercise 1 hour before and 2 hours after feeding. Bloat is a serious, life-threatening situation and it happens very quickly. My dog was fine after he ate breakfast. I took a 10 minute shower and when I came back, he was already suffering. A trip to the emergency vet and a $2,000 bill for surgery and he was fine. But he was very, very lucky. The emergency vet actually told me to go back and say good bye to him before surgery because if they found dead bowels they wouldn’t even wake him up from the surgery.
