Why cant you come up with a solution in Whitingham that doesnt cost so much?
We believe we can find lower cost solutions for all of the options that are presented. We are not satisfied that we have found the lowest cost solutions. The higher cost in the option that moves the high school down to Whitingham reflects the fact that a high school at this location requires a significant increase in the amount of square footage that is currently available. Also, much of the existing space needs to be reconfigured to integrate an expanded HS, MS and ES program. There are facility issues at the Whitingham site that need to be addressed and brought up to state and federal code. Once a certain percentage of the school is remodeled state law requires many conditions that are currently grandfathered (facility problems that are in violation of updated state and federal law but allowed) are now required to be addressed. The Whitingham consolidation option addresses those problems as well as provides a new/remodeled high school and middle school facility.
