Why can they lower the drinking age to 18?
Actually, in the US, the reason is the National Minimum Drinking Age Act of 1984. It lets the DOT hold back 10% of the money given to maintain highways to any state that doesn’t enforce a minimum age of 21 to be served (Federal Aid Highway Act). Your state keeps the age at 21, because if they don’t they lose money. That’s the whole reason. Congress passed the National Minimum Drinking Age Act because of pressure by groups like MADD. Only Arab/Moslem nations and the US makes you wait to your twenties to drink, but there’s no problem letting you vote, own land, drive and get married. They’ll also ship you overseas at 17 to serve and maybe die. Even more mysterious is that Canada (18/19) and Europe where you can drink as young as 16 compares with the US and sometimes does better in life expectancy, standardized testing and crime rates (including DUI), even though the average Canadian drinks a third more than the average American and the Europeans who drink twice what the average American
