Why cant the Pocket PC operating system be offered as an upgrade like other MS Windows operating systems?
Other MS Windows operating systems (such as XP) are designed to be sold through retail outlets and are localized in a variety of languages. The architecture of the hardware and software allow for this. Pocket PC software and hardware running it, is more unique, therefore it is more specific to each manufacturer. MS does not offer the upgrades, and it is up to each individual manufacturer to offer such upgrades. Not all manufacturers offer upgrades. HP is one of the few manufacturers that do offer upgrades on many of their platforms.
