Why can the money being used for the Kino Aquatics Center be used for schools?
The construction of the Kino Aquatics Center and other Mesa pools has been funded by the city of Mesa. Because the city is a different government organization, the money to build pools is not part of the district budget. The construction and operation of pools have been a long-time partnership between the city and the school district. Traditionally, the school district provides a portion of land for the pool site on the campus, and the city pays for the pool construction. During the school year, when the students use the pools as part of the physical education program, the district pays for the operating costs. When the pools are open to the public in the summer, the city funds the costs.
