Why can the Council take plastic packaging such as food trays and yoghurt pots with the recycling symbol on them?
The problem is that currently there are very limited markets for these materials. They are a mixture of plastic types and strengths, and are difficult to recycle economically. Although many manufacturers of packaging use the recycling symbol, it only indicates that it is theoretically possible to recycle it, not that there is a factory willing to take it. More information is available on the Project Integra website (this is an external hyperlink).
