Why can Styrofoam be recycled in Kent County?
Sorting and storage limitations at our current facility make it difficult to include this type of plastic for recycling. Plans for a new recycling facility are progressing and by the end of 2009, a new, state-of-the-art Materials Recycling Facility will be built. At this time, polystyrene foam products may be accepted, depending on the market. See our household waste guide for a listing of private businesses that will accept some types of Styrofoam. As with all products, consider your purchasing habits. When possible, purchase products with the least amount of packaging and try to buy products packaged in recyclable materials.
