Why cant scoliosis be caused by posture?
I also have scoliosis and have had it for many yrs. It is not caused by bad posture, but bad posture doesn’t help it. It is a birth defect and over time gradually curves into an S. My family members have it also and it is inherited from my grandmother. I personally think it is a defect in the bones. Mine was found at age 12, I have moderate to severe scoliosis and since you are 17, it may have been there for a while , but not detected until now. The more you set at the computer, you must get up and walk around and stretch your back muscles. My neck is 30, but my lower back is in the 50’s. If it gets to 70 they recommend surgery. But mine is holding so far. I am 51 now and the dr. says he hopes it will start to slow down. I have the rotating kind where the spine rotates and causes bad back muscle spasms and it is painful. But I have to live with it. I also have osteoarthritis as a secondary condition caused by the scoliosis. The March of Dimes has catagorized Scoliosis as a birth defect
