Why can Royal Guards in front of Buckingham Palace move or smile etc…?

Tradition and discipline, this is drummed into any recruit to the Brigade of Guards.A public duties guard stint is 4 hours on and 4 hours off ,don’t forget or loose sight of the fact that these Guardsmen that people stand and admire whilst outside Buckingham Palace,or trooping the colour on Horseguards are highly trained professional combat soldiers. As such they have the same leave entitlements as any other British serviceman or woman.Every member of a Guards regiment is extremely proud of their regiment and its traditions.
