Why can people use proper grammar and spelling anymore?
You have had a number of mixed reactions and answers to this question. It is an issue I have very strong feelings about. For those learning the language, it is a hard language but for those of us for whom English is our mother tongue, I am glad English is mine. My English teacher took pride in the way in which she taught it to us. She was tough with us and expected very high standards all the time with spelling, grammar and diction. She stood no nonsense from us and I am so glad she did. Spelling is something I take seriously and no, I do not use spell check – it is American anyway and not English eg take the word colour (English way of spelling) and color (American). I look the word up in a dictionary if I am uncertain how to spell it. We were expected to learn and understand grammar and am thankful too that mine is not bad. Some people say I sound “posh” but my parents, grand-parents, siblings and children all speak this way and I do not consider it posh at all. If necessary, I could
