Why can’t malaria be eradicated in endemic countries the way it was in North America?
The Global Malaria Eradication Program in 1955 succeeded in eliminating malaria from Europe, North America, the Caribbean and parts of Asia and South-Central America.7 But no major success occurred in sub-Saharan Africa, mainly due to technical challenges of executing the strategy especially in Africa.
