The LaTeX output is designed to work with LaTeX version 2e and the output files will not work with the much older LaTeX version 2.0.9. The file cxref.tex (or basename.tex if ‘-Nbasename’ is used) is the file that must be processed by LaTeX.

There are two options for producing LaTeX output, ‘-latex’ and ‘-latex2e’. These refer to two different versions of the LaTeX program.
