Why can I see PDF documents that have been filed in criminal or social security cases through the Notice of Electronic Filing (NEF) e-mail?

Access to the PDF document may be restricted in these case types for the following reasons: • The document is sealed; • Only the attorney of record in a Social Security case may view PDF documents; • Currently you should be able to view all criminal documents except those under seal through the Notice of Electronic Filing. However, most criminal case documents filed prior to August 1, 2005 may only be viewed by the attorney of record.
