Why can I repair Blu-ray and Playstation 3 (PS3) discs?

0

Unlike standard DVDs which have a cover layer of .6mm over the data layer, Blu-ray and PS3 discs have only a .1mm thick cover layer, making them much more sensitive to surface scratches. Because of this, Blu-ray / PS3 discs have a special hard coat technology on the disc surface that renders them much harder to scratch than DVD, and so the need for scratch repair is reduced. In the unlikely event of a scratch, the hard coat similarly makes repair more difficult. There are presently no products sold at retail distribution which are capable of repairing Blu-ray / PS3.
