Why cant I order a replacement shaft sleeve for a 4030 pump without getting the shaft as well?
The standard shaft sleeve for a series 4030 pump is stainless steel. The sleeve is shrunk onto the shaft then machined to size. This enables a larger shaft diameter under the sleeve meaning a stronger shaft. Because of this Armstrong only sells the (Steel) shaft and (Stainless steel) sleeve as a complete unit. If there is a service problem and the sleeve is damaged and needs replacing then we’ll replace the whole shaft and sleeve assembly, at a reasonable price, which is easier to replace than most shaft sleeves. Note that pumps with mechanical seals don’t typically need shaft sleeves replaced when the seal is serviced. There should be no sleeve damage with a mechanical seal as there would be with packing.
