Why can I open Finale 98 files in Finale 97 or earlier versions?
A. A Finale document contains items (Note-attached Slurs, Percussion Maps, and Shape Articulations for example) that simply didn’t exist in earlier versions. Consequently, previous versions of Finale will not recognize this data. Keep in mind, however, that the first digit to the right of the decimal is the crucial one: while you can’t open 3.7 files in 3.0, you can open 3.7.2 files in 3.7.1 or 3.7.0.
