Why can I just specify a date and time for the notification instead of the number of minutes?
Notifications are tied to the ending time of the event rather than a specific time of day because the ending time may change. Such changes are a big reason for this site. If you specify a notification for one hour before the event ends, you will receive it one hour before even if the ending time changes. If you had specified a time of day that is one hour before the event ends when you entered it, it would no longer be one hour before if the ending time then changed. There is a Minutes from Date calculator available. You can enter the desired notification date in the calculator which will provide the equivalent number of minutes.
