Why cant I just have my tooth filled instead of having it crowned?
If a tooth needs a crown, a filling would be just a short-term restoration. A crown is done when the tooth needs the support of the restorative material. It is a long-term solution to the problem. When teeth have a lot of missing parts, it is difficult to replace them with proper contours and fit with amalgams and composites (fillings).
