Why can I find Walmarts or Targets with grocery stores in them?
In the Pa side of Philly’s suburbs, Wal marts are just slowly beginning to cross over to becoming supercenters. I think they waited because there probably wasn’t as big a profit potential in selling groceries. There are alot of grocery stores competing with each other and they range from the upscale to the cheaper stores. I’d say Wal mart will compete more with the cheaper stores. Unions are big and are protected so that is a major deterrent to getting stores built. The profit is there, Wal marts can dominate whole areas in the boonies or inner cities due to lack of competition but getting allowed to be built is a major hurdle.
