Why Can’t I Find Free Licensed Character Patterns?Many stitchers search for free licensed character Cross Stitch patterns such as Thomas the Tank Engine, Disney characters, and Dora the Explorer. There’s a reason they are not easily found.Answer: I’m not a copyright lawyer, so I can’t give legal advice but I do know that characters such as Thomas, Mickey, and Dora are copyrighted, usually by the companies making the movies or shows. When something is copyrighted, permission from the copyright holder is required to make derivative works such as Cross Stitch patterns. If you find free patterns of these characters, there is a good chance that they are not legally produced.
