Why can I drive in Centenial Park in Sydney?
When I was a driving instructor, my boss told me the reason for this; learner drivers were banned from Centennial Park a long time ago because on a weekend, particularly on a Sunday, the park was filled to the brim with ‘L’ drivers, going round and round the park and clogging it up. It was like every learner in the Eastern Suburbs would go there and spend hours just going round and round it. The traffic was terrible because of all these ‘L’ drivers, and the park wasn’t a very pleasant place to be – which defeats the whole purpose of it being a park. You can imagine the noise, the pollution, the frustration of people wanting to go for a picnic or whatever, and the plain horror and bedlam of it all. Not to mention of the danger of an inexperienced ‘L’ driver hitting a jogger, rollerblader or a horse and rider.
