Why can double dappled dachshunds be kennel club registered?
There is no reason for banning 2x dappled matings to cause breeding problems, on the contrary.The Dachshund breed clubs have asked the Kennel Club to refuse registration of the double dappled as this is a lethal gene. The single dapple mated to a solid colour is still allowed. NOBODY, with any breed that carries the merling gene should breed two merles together. Dogs that have two merle /dapple/harlequin parents may be born with serious deformities; deaf, blind, small eyes or no eyes at all. The breed clubs and kennel club are simply taking the responsible and ethical stand. # You KNOW when a dog is BRED (they are not loaves = bread) properly when you purchase a dog from an ethical breeder who follows ethical and responsible breeding practices and principals. NEVER buy a dog whose parents are both merle/dapple.
