We do not currently have the authority to regulate the number of tournaments or number of tournament boats allowed, particularly for shared resources such as the Potomac River. Because the Potomac is fished by the State of Virginia and residents of Washington, D.C., tournaments can be launched out of their parks or locations. The dates and locations of large tournaments are usually spread out throughout the year. It is in the best interest of the tournament director to host their tournament during a weekend or at a location that other large tournaments are not being held because it reduces the number of anglers on the water. Doing so also keeps ramp and facility usage at manageable levels. One common complaint from local non-tournament anglers is access to ramps on tournament days.
