Why can AC electricity be used to make an electromagnet?
In an electromagnet, the negative side of the coil is said to “emit” the magnetic field lines- it is the north pole of the electromagnet. However, in alternating current, the energized wire alternates between positive and negative. As a result, a conventional electromagnet running on alternating current would constantly be undergoing a reversal of the poles.
