Why can troponin, cardiac enzymes, full blood count creatinine, urea & electrolyte be odered for a pts with MI?
Troponin levels can be used as a test of several different heart disorders, including myocardial infarction. Raised troponin levels are prognostically important in many of the conditions in which they are used for diagnosis. In a community-based cohort study indicating the importance of silent cardiac damage, troponin I has been shown to predict mortality and first coronary heart disease event in men free from cardiovascular disease at baseline When the total CPK level is very high, it usually means there has been injury or stress to the heart, the brain, or muscle tissue. For example, when a muscle is damaged, CPK leaks into the bloodstream. Determining which specific form of CPK is high helps doctor’s determine which tissue has been damaged.
