Why can some people accept hypnosis to a deeper state than others?
People differ in the degree to which they respond to hypnosis. A person’s ability to experience hypnosis can be inhibited by fears and concerns arising from some common misconceptions. Successful entry into a hypnotic trance is dependent on instruction from the therapist (or self in the case of self-hypnosis). There are people who resist being instructed. This can apply even when they have agreed to co-operate because frequently the resistance is at the unconscious and not the conscious level. In many cases, the client may feel that s/he is surrendering their ego to the control of another person if s/he yields. Other qualities and traits that can also influence individual ability to achieve different levels of trance.
